Pierre Gasly claims he realised how well he was doing when he saw the blue flags being waved for him lapping drivers, rather than being the other way round.
Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly managed a P6 finish at the Hungaroring on Sunday, to leave the Frenchman 'best of the rest'.
Gasly was laughing in the interview after the race, as he was experiencing lapping drivers for the first time, as he is more used to being lapped himself in his Toro Rosso car.
"As soon as I started to arrive behind the Williams, I think (it was) actually the first time I saw blue flags for cars ahead of me," Gasly told Motorsport.com.
"So when I saw that, I thought, 'F***, it means I am doing a good race now'.
"Usually the blue flag is for me, (to move aside) for the Ferrari or the Mercedes, but that was a pretty good feeling.
"I've been lapped in Bahrain (where he finished fourth). I didn't lap other cars. It may be the first time I haven't been lapped and I've lapped other cars."
Gasly thought the race "went like a dream" even though he was "pushing flat out" due to the pressure of Kevin Magnussen catching him up.
"If it looked like a lonely race, it was really hard work," the Toro Rosso driver added.
