Pierre Gasly is still hoping to earn a place at Red Bull Racing thanks to his good season at AlphaTauri. Although things have gone wrong at the Austrian outfit, he's got the hang of it this year and thinks he's a better driver now.
It will not be easy for the Frenchman to take his place alongside Max Verstappen, however, as Red Bull has already acquired a second driver in Sergio Pérez this year. The Mexican is not yet performing as expected, but the team seems confident that he will perform well.
Gasly also sees that Pérez has potential, which is why he is focused on AlphaTauri for now. "A driver always wants to be behind the wheel of the best possible car. I think at AlphaTauri they want a leader to try and really grow the team and I think there is a good relationship between me and them," Gasly stated in conversation with Motorsport.com. "At the end of the day I just want to do well, weekend after weekend, race after race, and show my potential."
The driver is therefore patiently waiting to see what Red Bull will decide. "My future is in the hands of Red Bull. If they want me, or if they are satisfied with the current driver team. Or maybe it depends on how Sergio is doing and how they see the future with AlphaTauri. We are discussing a lot of things. Everything is going well, but at the moment there is no answer. I expect to get more answers in the coming weeks."
