For AlphaTauri, the race weekend in Austria was one to forget. No points were scored in either the sprint race or the Grand Prix, and
Pierre Gasly also received a penalty for a collision with
Sebastian Vettel.
Dramatic weekend for Gasly
"I think we can write off this weekend," Gasly said in a
press release from his team. According to the Frenchman,
Red Bull Racing's sister team lacked pace overall. Gasly crossed the finish line fifteenth, while teammate Yuki Tsunoda finished just sixteenth at the
Red Bull Ring.
Gasly collided with Vettel in the race on exiting turn four and entering turn five. "I obviously received a penalty in the race, so I guess I’m the one to blame for the incident with Sebastian," Gasly said.
Twice the same incident
The incident between Gasly and Vettel was almost identical to the incident between
George Russell and
Sergio Perez on lap one. Like Gasly, Russell also received a penalty for his incident. Mercedes, however, considers the penalty on the heavy side. According to Andrew Shovlin, Russell left more than enough room for Perez.
