After an impressive win under the nightlights at Singapore, an exhausted Lewis Hamilton has said that it felt like the longest race of his career, as he spent the bulk of the Grand Prix fending off Max Verstappen.
Hamilton has extended his lead at the top of the championship to a whopping forty points now, making it very unlikely for Sebastian Vettel in second to catch up now, with only a handful of races to go.
The Brit had an excellent start, and after some intense pressure from Verstappen in the middle part of the race, he could see home the victory, his seventh of the season on his fourth here.
"I'm spent," he told David Coulthard after climbing out of the car.
"It felt like the longest race of my life so I'm glad it's over.
"I was unlucky with the traffic, my heart was in my mouth for a minute... but I managed to get the pedal down."
A great outing from Hamilton, who proved that even with a lesser package, he can still get that Mercedes over the line first, both in a qualifying and in a race setting. Championship-worthy drive from him.
