Lewis Hamilton has suggested he will be staying at Mercedes beyond the current season. This comes after announcing his primary goal is to overcome success records set by the Ferrari team.
The four constructors title’s he has helped Mercedes win clearly aren’t enough as he looks to propel the team towards Ferrari’s total of 16.
“I want to push it as far as I can, with the lifespan as a driver that I have, that it would take a long, long time for anyone else to catch up,” said Hamilton.
“I think it would really upset the red cars and the red team, so that’s my goal.” This ruling out any immediate turn towards Ferrari.
“My hope for the future is that we continue – continue to grow, excel and always move forward.”
With his contract running out at the end of the year, saying these sorts of remarks suggests he is staying more than anything before. Mercedes Toto Wolff has suggested the contract is in the final stages ever since pre-season testing.
“Obviously, I hope to build our relationship,” added Lewis
“But I really want to take this team the furthest it has ever been. I want to be a part of this journey where Mercedes is the most successful Formula One team in history."
