Lewis Hamilton has openly admitted how the Mercedes aerodynamic team have let the team down since the 2022 rules and regulations were introduced. The seven-time World Champion highlighted how the engine remains at the top of the list.
Hamilton has not won a race since December 2021, which was before the regulation changes. His teammate, George Russell, won once in Brazil. Ever since the changes, Mercedes have been playing catch-up in the aerodynamic department. But Hamilton believes his engine remains at the top following McLaren's win.
"We've always known that the engine's not a problem. So the engine's great. I think the guys have continued to do an amazing job in terms of developing that technology. And with the hybrid era, we have been right at the top in terms of our development rate, performance and reliability. So that hasn't ever been an issue. So anyone buying our engines knows what they're getting," Hamilton told the media, including GPblog and others in Imola.
But Hamilton knows the area which has let the team down. "We know on the car side, we haven't done the best of jobs in the last couple of years. And we're working as hard as we can to rectify that."
Hamilton achieved his best result of the 2024 season last time out in Miami. The Brit finished in sixth place. Meanwhile, Mercedes' customers McLaren beat Red Bull in Miami. Hamilton sits ninth in the World Championship behind four Mercedes-powered drivers.
McLaren, Aston Martin, Williams and Mercedes themselves are using the same engine.
Yet, McLaren is on 124 points, while Mercedes is on about half, at 64, AM is on 42 while Williams is on Zero!
So, is the huge discrepency because of the car design, drivers talents, team management or something else?
The W13 and the time and effort wasted on that car are still haunting Mercedes. They are literally in 2022 with their current car in terms of their development curve versus the rest of the grid. Maybe in 2025, there might be a resurgence, but my money is on Mercedes being competitive in 2026.
With the w13 they hsd onw win so they stuck with zero pod then lewis said they should follow what red bull have done.then 2023 they came up with w14 and w14b no wins .lewis said wanted driver postion back more merc did that chsnge to new car .still have mager problams its just not the areo its the chasie as well not working in harmany with the car .toto say its wind tunnel and sim date not matching what car dose on track .
Mercedes is not a one winnteam Mavric, the no pods did not work, how many teams have that concept in the grid in 2024?
Sorry vegan i was have bad morning .well merc need to get to botrom of there problams with there car
