Lewis Hamilton is now driving his seventeenth season in Formula 1. At Fox Sports Australia he reveals what he has learned in his career and how he has improved. He says that, among other things, he has learned how to deal with disappointment and that these days he knows exactly what he needs from a car.
Hamilton has been around for a while and has enjoyed hugely successful periods. Between 2014 and 2020, he won six out of seven world titles. Since 2022, his team Mercedes has been less successful, managing to win only one of the past 25 races. This victory was not achieved by Hamilton, but by his younger teammate George Russell.
The seven-time world champion is currently going through a disappointing period in Formula 1, but he says he can deal with it just fine these days. "Particularly when I was younger when I had a bad race you couldn’t talk to me for days - I was in such a dark place often. So being able to recover from that, you know past is past five minutes ago I can’t change that but what I can change is how I move forwards. So that was a huge step for me," said the seven-time world champion.
The Briton also says he is much more knowledgeable about the car than he used to be. That obviously helps a lot in finding the right setup for his car. "I understand the car so much more now than when I did when I first got here. I was at the mercy of the engineers around me. I couldn’t dictate a huge amount, I couldn’t say: Hey guys this is the direction we need to go. But I can do that now, I know what I need in the car."
Lewis drive the car! That's what Alonso and Max do, stop with the complaining already!!!
see... thats why he gets the big money.... all he needs is a measly 100 hp advantage and he is fully capable of suffering through and squeaking out a win or two. a true champions insight...
Hamilton on his improvements: 'I now know what I need in the car' A Red-Bull......
[F1 is back ] & vegan warrior. Blah blah blah blah you are so pathetic the pair of you
When I read the title I burst out laughing. It no secret what Lewis needs. No further comment.
"Always pushing the negative. Time to heal chap, time to heal."
Well weren't you posting about me being ........ and I should heal. So do you wanna explain, maybe you keyboard malfunctioned or somthing cause I wouldn't want think you're a hypocrite now ?
A very talented driver is able to be quick even if the car is not to his liking by being able to adapt his driving to suit and to get the most out of a not-so-good car, while a less talented driver is able to be very quick only in a very easy-to-drive car that is to his liking which suits his driving style.
Exactly. Alonso has the same seating position as Lewis and has adjusted to it. He is not complaining to anyone about it.
He needs a replacement in his car. Lewis complaining about his seat and affecting his performance is the joke of the century. In 50+ years of watching f1, ive seen drivers drive cars at peak performance with 1 hand (Senna), with broken seat belt (Senna), and won races and never complained on or off the track. His hero is Senna, yet he cant emulate him. Alonso has the same seating position and has adjusted and is not whining about it. A good driver adjusts and shows his performance ON track. Lewis is full of excuses which dont hide his mediocre performance over the last 2 and half years.
Great drivers adapt while others struggle. Senna won races with 1 hand on the steering wheel, with cramps, and struggling with his seat belt. These are just lame excuses from Lewis who cant perform without superior machinery. Alonso has the same seating design as lewis and has adapted and performed. He has not complained about it and his showing his driver skills.
