Brendon Hartley is confident that his car is improving as the team are getting to grips with the 2018 regulations, with upgrades just around the corner.
Hartley was running in P11 when he was taken out of the race by Charles Leclerc, who had faulty brakes, in one of the more spectacular crashes of the season.
Despite having only scored one point this season, the New Zealander thinks that the team had a positive weekend.
“It had been a strong weekend,” he said. “Not really much to show for it unfortunately.”
Toro Rosso have an engine upgrade on the way for the Canadian Grand Prix next weekend, which will be Honda’s first of the season. However, Hartley does not know what sort of upgrade it is, and what difference it will make to the car.
“I’m still pretty positive for Montreal. We have an engine update coming, and we gad a new floor here, so we had some performance to put on the car,” he said. “It looks like the team is really starting to unlock the car’s potential.
“I don’t know exact numbers, I think it’s better you ask someone from Honda or Toro Rosso. But I think it’s meant to be a sizeable step.”
