Hefty pay rise for Perez, but nowhere near Verstappen's

Since the departure of Daniel Ricciardo at Red Bull Racing, the team had a tough time finding a good teammate alongside Max Verstappen. Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon went down with the Austrian team, but Sergio Perez appears to be an ideal teammate for the Dutchman. An extension of his contract was therefore only a matter of time for the Mexican.

Pay rise for Perez

In Monaco, Perez signed on for two years. After winning the Grand Prix that weekend, he mistakenly said he had signed too early. With that victory under his belt, he might have been able to negotiate a better salary, but the 32-year-old driver is nonetheless sitting pretty financially for the next few years.

The French Sportune says it knows the details of the new contract and lets it be known that Perez has received a nice salary increase. Last year Perez received a base salary of five million euros, in the new contract this has been increased to seven million euros. In addition, there is also a performance bonus of three million euros. With the current form of Perez that should be all right.

Not yet at salary level Verstappen

In addition to his salary as a driver at Red Bull Racing, Perez also has his Mexican sponsor whom he guarantees. That economic guarantee is set at twenty million euros per year from 2021. Perez can therefore add a lot of money to his bank account in the coming years, but the Mexican does not yet come close to his teammate. Verstappen reportedly earns forty million euros per year, making him the highest earning Formula 1 driver.

Now that he has s getting performance bonuses, he may lead the championship soon and show the rest that he is capable of doing what his team mate had help from him doing. Remember Perez slowed Hamilton down a few times last season to help max and this season gave up his position. Can't see him doing that anymore. Maybe be we will have fairness for once in redbull racing.

Wow, why would you insult Perez that much?

You say that he only does his best now that he gets bonuses for it?

Sad!!!

To think how lucky Perez has been. Almost lost the place in F1. Just to get a seat in one of the fastest cars.

If Gasly would have made it work, if Albon would have made it work. If Vettel would not have taken his seat in Aston Martin. All these things happened just in the right moment for Sergio to get RedBull seat.

And if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump its backside. Perez deserves the seat.

And if my aunt would be my uncle, she would have bollocks.
You bet.

It's a strange rushed re-signing because Perez has been destroyed by Max in terms of race pace in 7/7 races this year and 22/22 races last year.

Brandon Graham 06 June 2022 at 18:17+ 677

yet he's just 15 points out of first 1/3 of the way through the season.

LukeF1 06 June 2022 at 20:54+ 2356

He did suffer from less technical problems though so far. Verstappen had to retire twice while Perez only once.

Brandon Graham 06 June 2022 at 21:37+ 677

and that's why we race 22 times a year

LukeF1 07 June 2022 at 12:23+ 2356

Sure but I mean that this 15 point gap would have been double if he had finished as many races as Perez. I think you get it.

Your bias against all things American (north and central) is showing again. Why wouldn't RB rush to re-sign Perez? He's a perfect number two who seems to be entering his peak driving years. Who might you suggest would be a better driver right now, than Perez? Who, in your estimation, can consistently equal Max in terms of pace? Anyone?

Perez destroyed by Max? This guy is such an idiot! Peres is third on the grid and only 15pts behind Max?

It's a quirk of the points system.

Perez has been destroyed.

You two are both right and wrong.
Perez clearly is not as fast as Verstappen, but he just as clearly has deserved his new contract
