Times are not everything in a winter test, but they can give an indication of which drivers feel comfortable enough in the car to start pushing for lap times. We didn't see any fast times from Aston Martin, whilst the drivers with Honda engines were surprisingly fast.
The first day was all about getting to know the new cars and understanding what the small rule changes for 2021 mean for the speed of the car. The sandstorm that hit the track in the afternoon meant that on day one no fast lap times were set.
On day two the drivers started looking for faster times and that was reflected in the timesheet. In the final top ten of fastest times Valtteri Bottas was in ninth place with a time set on the second day of testing. The rest of the times were all set on day three, where the track was at its fastest.
Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda were both tremendously fast on Sunday, setting the best times by far. Carlos Sainz and Kimi Raikkonen were also drivers who drove under the 1:30.000 mark. Behind them it is all very close, but not every driver went flat out to set a fast lap. How fast everyone really is, we will see next week on Saturday night in Bahrein, when the qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix is scheduled.
