Following the conclusion of FP1,
Christian Horner was asked by Sky Sports about the situation with Alonso. The Spaniard said that Red Bull had offered him a drive twice during this season, once in Monaco and again in August following Daniel Ricciardo's exit.
"Maybe Franz has made him an offer, but there was no offer from Red Bull Racing. Alonso is one of the best Grand Prix drivers out there, but he just doesn't fit the profile of our team," Horner told
Sky Sports. "It'll be sad to see him leave Formula One, but there was certainly never an offer on the table from Red Bull Racing. The situation was always very clear that Fernando doesn't fit in our thoughts and future. Why Fernando chose to tell you he had an offer, I'm not sure."
Alonso sat out of FP1 today as young McLaren driver Lando Norris took over his cockpit for this mornings session. Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo sat inside the garage for almost all of the session following an injectors issue.
