Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has praised their engine supplier Renault for the engine they delivered, as Red Bull driver Max Verstappen emerged victorious with quite a big margin in Mexico.
Verstappen and his teammate Daniel Ricciardo were a class above everyone else in qualifying, as the Aussie beat the Dutchman to pole position in a Red Bull one-two. In the race on Sunday, Verstappen quickly took the lead from Ricciardo. The 29-year-old was in second place at the end of the race when his car broke down, meaning he ended a race in retirement for the eighth time this season.
Horner was happy with the way Renault set up the engine though, with the French power unit thriving in the tough conditions in Mexico.
"Credit where credit's due," Horner was quoted by F1i after the race.
"Renault have provided us with an engine this weekend in these conditions that is competitive with our opponents.
"That's enabled us to go head-to-head, lock out the front row of the grid and win the Grand Pprix in a dominant fashion. Theoretically, we should have had a one-two here.
"The altitude of this circuit does constrain some of our rivals and it puts Renault into a window where they are competitive.
"Which is why we put an awful lot of focus into this race in taking the penalties [in Russia] to get another B-Spec into the pool, to have for this weekend."
