Pirelli's newest and softest compound tyre will make its first appearance in the principality in May.
The pink hypersoft tyres brand new for 2018 will be raced for the first time at the
Monaco Grand Prix in May.
The difference in the delta between the hyper and ultrasoft tyres could be as much as 0.8s per lap around the Monte-Carlo streets and could make for an intense battle in qualifying with Mercedes' past cars not as at home on the twisty streets as their main rivals.
Described by Lewis Hamilton as the best Pirelli has produced since returning to F1, the compound will be made available along with the ultrasoft and supersoft tyre for May’s race.
Speaking to F1.com, Pirelli racing manager Mario Isola said he expects lap times to tumble and is expectant of a new lap record.
“Monaco is a lot about mechanical grip so a softer tyre will give a big advantage in terms of lap time, I have a good expectation that we will have a lap record.”
Kimi Raikkonen currently holds the lap record around Monaco after he took pole position for last years race with a 1:12.178s lap that had fans everywhere talking.
