In what would be one of the most sensational u-turns in F1 history, Toro Rosso are looking at the possibility of re-signing Daniil Kvyat, less than a year after it looked like his F1 career was dead.
Kvyat, believe it or not, was once seen as the future of Red Bull alongside Daniel Ricciardo, but the Russian was demoted back to Toro Rosso in early 2016. His replacement? Max Verstappen.
Since then, their careers have gone in polar opposite directions, with Verstappen winning races and signing mega contracts with Red Bull and Kvyat being dropped by Toro Rosso altogether.
However, Toro Rosso could be set to re-hire the Russian driver, with Pierre Gasly moving to Red Bull and Brendon Hartley failing to impress, they are left without a Red Bull junior driver as a 2019 option.
Kvyat currently works as a simulator driver for Ferrari, and there have been talks at Monza between Maurizio Arrivabene, Helmut Marko and Christian Horner about the possibility of bringing Kvyat back.
Toro Rosso have already contacted Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne about a return, only to receive a “no thanks” from the Frenchman.
Vergne said: “If it was a call for Red Bull I would have thought about it, but I think I have already completed my experience at Toro Rosso.”
