Charles Leclerc's ultimate dream is to drive for Ferrari one day, and he hopes that that one day could be as early as next year, as he wants to replace Kimi Raikkonen at the prancing horse.
Leclerc is a Scuderia Academy graduate and is still tied to Ferrari. He's been linked to Raikkonen's seat in 2019, but he's certainly not the favourite to line up next to Sebastian Vettel.
"To switch that off is always difficult, when people say that it only makes me smile," Leclerc told Motorsport when asked about potentially being at Ferrari.
“But on the other hand, it doesn’t feel realistic for now.
"I’m just focusing on this season – I think that’s important.
“If I’m starting to distract myself with what could possibly happen next year I don’t think it would be positive for me, so for now I’m focused on this year."
When asked if he wouldn't need a step between Sauber and Ferrari, a midfield Ferrari-affiliated team like Haas, Leclerc didn't think that that would be necessary.
“Sauber is doing all the right steps to improve quickly.
“It’s looking very good for the future of the team - It’s all positive.
