The 2018 Chinese Grand Prix supplied
Daniel Ricciardo’s sixth Grand Prix victory. As the Aussie referred to, his race wins have always been exciting! We take a look back at all six!
The 2014 Canadian Grand Prix
In just his sixth drive for Red Bull, Daniel Ricciardo became the fourth Australian to win a Grand Prix following in the footsteps of Jack Brabham, Alan Jones and Mark Webber.
Setting the tone, Ricciardo started the race 6th on the grid almost a full second behind Nico Rosberg in pole position.
The Silver Arrows both experienced simultaneous MGU-K issues resulting in a loss of around 160 horsepower. The rear brakes came under serious strain.
An issue which slowed both cars down but ultimately leads to Hamilton’s retirement on lap 48. A line of cars formed and Ricciardo was in a strong position.
He went from third to 1st in the space of four laps passing the race leader Nico Rosberg on the penultimate lap.
The 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix
This time Daniel started the race a little bit higher up in 4th place roughly half a second of pole-sitter Nico Rosberg.
The 28-year-old took the race lead early but was soon overtaken by Jensen Button after a safety car period.
Riccardo then went back into the lead after pitstops from Button, Alonso and Hamilton but Ricciardo dropped down to 3rd with 8 laps remaining.
Daniel then went on to glide past Hamilton and race leader Alonso with just 2 laps left to charge for the race win! Another race where the man famous for a ‘shoey’ came back to clinch it in the dying stages.
The 2014 Belgian Grand Prix
Ricciardo managed to pull back to back race wins on the 2014 calendar. And this race win was no different. Once again ‘Dan the man’ started deep and far from the front row of the grid.
5th place was his grid position which enabled him to keep out of the drama that followed on the first lap.
The Mercedes team-mates collided after the long straight causing all sorts of trouble for Toto Wolff.
Ricciardo managed the race comfortably and went on to win his 3rd race of the season.
The 2016 Malaysian Grand Prix
The Red Bull driver then went dry for the next season. It took until deep in the 2016 season for Daniel to climb to the top of the podium once more.
Ricciardo started on the second row of the grid in fourth. Bottas collided with Vettel in the first corner pushing Valterri to back and forcing Vettel to retire.
Lewis Hamilton’s engine then blew up, eventually costing him the title. Daniel inherited the lead of the race from this point onwards and once again managed an excellent drive to claim the chequered flag.
The 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix
You guessed it, Ricciardo didn't qualify on the front row! Well, this time he started in P10! And add to this, he had to pit early pushing him right down to P17!
Two safety cars and a red flag helped join the pack together a little more than usual but take nothing away from Ricciardo.
Dan was 5th for the restart, which soon became 3rd when he passed both the Williams cars almost straight away! Hamilton had to pit due to a headrest that came loose, and Vettel served a 10-second penalty.
Ricciardo hung on to finish 1st for the 5th time in his career.
The 2018 Chinese Grand Prix
And we all know what happened here! Starting low down he reacted fastest to a safety car, finding some fresh tyres to perform well.
6th to 1st in 10 laps was the story of the day. So there we go, watch out when Ricciardo starts from 5th or lower! Place your bets!
