After initially targeting five wins for the 2019 F1 season for his team Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, advisor Dr Helmut Marko explained why the side hasn't reached this objective, as Max Verstappen took three victories for the Bulls.
In the first season of Red Bull's partnership with engine supplier Honda, it was always going to be a transitional season as the two parties grew accustomed to each other.
Still, thanks to the reliability and surprising power of the Honda engines combined with Verstappen's skill and talent, Red Bull had two wins on the board by the summer break and almost grabbed a third in Hungary before Lewis Hamilton snatched it away in the final laps.
Although Verstappen went on to win one more race in Brazil to complete his best-ever season in F1, but his team still ended the season two wins short of the projected five.
“We have stayed below our potential. Five wins would have been possible,” Marko told Austrian news outlet Kronen Zeitung.
“The reasons for this were, on the one hand, unfortunate circumstances such as the various crashes and on the other hand, that the chassis side only started improving later into the season."
Red Bull typically start seasons behind Ferrari and Mercedes and grow as the season progresses due to significant upgrades. Yet again, this was the case in 2019.
“This was one of the consequences of the weak start of the season in 2019 but we technically caught up. This time everything should work optimally from the beginning. Our complete attention is on the new car.”
With Honda's power units becoming stronger, giving Red Bull the luxury to keep up with Ferrari and Mercedes in straight lines, they could be more competitive from the start of 2020.
so dr scumbag admits the car sucked early on and still kick the kid out of his seat. the kid would have progress just as good as Alex.....alex watch ur back with dr scumbag....
Tom.. everbody at this level is fast..including Pierre. His problem is keeping it on the track. Always has been before he got his chance in F1. RB wanted a fast driver alongside Max to challenge him and make a run at the WCC. They have that now with Alex. The only person who should be watching his back is Max. Alex will no doubt reinforce RB's decision. Already has.
His problem is consistency. 2018 4 DNF, 249 points. 14,64 points per race. 2019 2 DNF, 278 pointz. 14, 63 points per race. Not much progress. Ferraris incompetence flatters him.
They could win Mexico, but Verstappen decided the rules does not apply to him.
Hekate..the lack of judgment Max trying to pass Bottas in a spot where no driver even thinks of trying.. speaks to this point.
Another "pile" from Dr.Darko. It had nothing to do with chassis performance. It boils down to Max's lack of judgment. Him winning the best/most improved..whatever it was..is the second biggest "pile". Grow a pair...man up..the little Dutch Boy screwed the pooch. Simple as that. If you weren't so scared at losing his services in the future your brazen attitude would have said so. Hell..he should have won six.
Based on boardradio Lewis is the little kid. Always crying about his tyres, tactical choices of the team and being very nervous if he has a fight. Furthermore he complains about Max in pers conferences when he is not around. When he is, Max is the a talented driver etc.. I think in personality Lewis can learn from Max and that's strange looking to their ages
Sini: I have a couple of suggestions for you. First, try to sit down and watch a race. Second, do some homework, so you don't come across like a complete idiot.
Sini: I meant to ask. Do you have a Flash Verstappen Teddy Bear that you sleep with? Just curious. Thank you and have a good evening.
