Lewis Hamilton and
George Russell complained about porpoising problems throughout the
Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Nevertheless, both drivers managed to finish behind the
Red Bull Racing cars. According to
Andrew Shovlin, Mercedes can be quite satisfied with that.
"We can be pleased with the result today as we've achieved the maximum possible," he revealed in a Mercedes press release. "Both drivers raced well, the strategy was good and it was a welcome reward to see George on the podium again."
Shovlin acknowledges that there are problems with the cars, but stresses that the people at the factory are working hard to fix them as soon as possible. "The team is determined to continue pushing to find solutions, to find performance and to get back to racing at the front."
Concerns at Mercedes over Hamilton's physical condition
Behind the scenes, however, things seem to be less calm. As a result of the porpoising in Azerbaijan, Hamilton is suffering from a serious back injury. Team boss Toto Wolff, therefore, let it be known that it remains to be seen whether Hamilton will be fit enough to start in Canada next weekend.
