It should have been a big party, but the Mexican Grand Prix turned into a deception for the home crowd. Their hero Sergio Perez did not make it through the first lap, after a collision with Charles Leclerc. The disappointment was not only in the stands, but also in the Mexican press. The country's biggest sports medium, Esto, grieved just as hard.

The site has the headline in bold letters: 'A mistake cost him the Mexican Grand Prix'. In the accompanying article, Esto discusses the difficult season the Red Bull Racing driver is having, in which the Mexican race was a new low. "In a 2023 Formula 1 season with a lot of tension, in which he faced racism and xenophobia from the Red Bull team, he knew this was the perfect opportunity to shine in front of his fans at the Mexico City Grand Prix."

Perez could not prove anything to Red Bull Racing

But it was not to be: "The Mexican was aware that only a win could make it clear that he is the ideal Red Bull driver. Despite being very far away from his teammate Max Verstappen this year. It was all or nothing. The man from Guadalajara took a gamble, he took a risk, but the plan did not work," the website lamented.

Lewis Hamilton has approached Perez to within 20 points in the standings. Meanwhile, Perez's second place in the final standings is in serious danger:"Becoming runner-up would be an exceptional result," Esto realised in conclusion.
