The second half of the 2019
Formula 1 season was shaken up last year by the riot around the
Ferrari fuel supply.
Max Verstappen, among others, openly accused the team of manipulating it with their sensors. This would give them a lot more power at certain moments.
We will probably never know for sure whether
Ferrari were actually 'cheating', but to avoid any doubt about this in the future, the FIA announced at the presentation of the new regulations for 2021 that they want to work with standardized sensors in the future.
This week the FIA announced more about the implementation of these sensors. Independent manufacturers have been invited to develop a sensor before 13 March that will be available on all cars from 2021 onwards.
The teams are also subject to restrictions on the use of the sensors. From 2020, the cars must have two separate sensors that measure the fuel supply. All intended to prevent manipulation. On 1 May the teams can order their sensors from the winning producer for 2021.
