Sergio Perez says that
Max Verstappen will come back better after his recent spate of accidents, culminating in the crash that forced him and team mate Daniel Ricciardo out of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday.
The young Dutchman is clearly talented but has not had a clean weekend this season.
Perez has said that Verstappen’s form reminds him of himself during 2013, when he spent a season with McLaren.
The Mexican had built his reputation with Sauber and was given the chance in what should have been a front running car. The car did not have the expected pace, and Perez finished 11th in the championship with more than his fair share of skirmishes to his name.
He was subsequently dropped by McLaren and Perez believes Verstappen is in a similar position to him, five years ago: “I got quite frustrated that my McLaren was not as quick as they told me it was going to be, they told me it was going to be many things – and I lost a lot of points because of that.
“I think Max, certainly in the last couple of races has been quite impatient and it’s a bit related to that.
“He doesn’t have the performance on his car that he was hoping to have and he is overdoing it and he lost a win last week.”
