Talking to Speedweek.com, Sergio Perez has gone out of his way to compliment Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, as Perez relates to the current patch of form the Dutch youngster is going through.
Wanting to prove yourself while not having the best car; Sergio Perez knows what that's like. In his time at McLaren, the Mexican was too aggressive and made a lot of mistakes, which eventually cost him his place at the team. He recognizes similar behaviour when watching Max Verstappen at Red Bull.
"I made too many errors at McLaren because I was too impatient," he explained.
"I think Max has had the same thing in the last few races; being too eager.
"It's understandable, as his Red Bull isn't as fast as he'd hoped."
However, Perez thinks that Verstappen will soon snap out of it, as he's too talented to be underperforming like this for long stretches.
"I'm convinced that he'll break the negative spiral he's currently in pretty quickly.
"Max is smart, and all other drivers know that they'll have to be at their best when he's behind them because he'll try anything to get past you.
"You can expect crazy things from him."
Perez needed a change of scenery for his career to eventually come good at Force India, but he doesn't think that Verstappen needs to do the same.
"He'll only get stronger, he's seen what happens."
