Kimi Raikkonen will start in fourth position for tomorrow’s race and he has conceded that he couldn’t get to grips with the tyres.
The Finn was outqualified again by his team mate Sebastian Vettel, who will start directly in front of him in second place.
Raikkonen took his one and only pole position since his return to Formula One this time last year in Monaco, but could not repeat his heroics this time round, being outdone by Daniel Ricciardo, Vettel and Lewis Hamilton.
“Today we struggled a bit to make the tyres work straightaway in the first two corners,” he said. “During the lap they seemed to improve, but here at Monaco, if you are not 100% sure of how it’s going to be in turn one, then you lack a bit of confidence.”
Raikkonen was altogether disappointed with the day but remains upbeat about possibilities tomorrow.
“Obviously, we cannot be totally happy with this result, we wanted to be higher up.
“The race is a different story. Usually it’s very tricky to overtake here, but in the past a lot of things happened.
“We’ll try to stay out of any trouble, make the right decisions and do the right things at the right moment.”
