Kimi Raikkonen beat his teammate Sebastian Vettel to second place in tomorrow's
Australian Grand Prix but was more concerned by Mercedes' superior pace and the gap between the Silver Arrows and the rest of the field.
The gap was 0.664s between Hamilton and Raikkonen, who both found pace in their final laps of Q3. Max Verstappen was on pace to steal second place, but made an error in the final sector of his hot lap, causing him to lose too much time.
"There's an awful lot of work to be done to improve in all areas," Raikkonen said after qualifying.
"We didn't know where we were compared to the others, and purely on today's lap times, the gap is bigger than we wanted for sure."
The Finn has won the Australian Grand Prix twice in his career, but he doesn't think that will help in Sunday's Grand Prix.
"Whatever has happened in the past doesn't make any difference tomorrow," the Ice Man said.
"Obviously you want to be as far in front as you can, but that doesn't guarantee anything.
"We'll try to make a good race out of it and see where we end up. Hopefully, we'll get a good result out of it."
