Lando Norris provided a remarkable moment after the
Australian Grand Prix. During the
Post Race Show of
Formula 1, he talked about
Fernando Alonso's race and the fact that
Oscar Piastri probably won't have to wait long for a seat in F1.
Piastri misses an opportunity
Piastri is perhaps the best driver who was out of the running for F1 before this season. After a title in
Formula 3 and 2 as a rookie, there was still no place for the Alpine Academy driver in the main team in the king class of motorsport. Alonso and
Esteban Ocon are in his seat, but Norris doesn't think he'll be around for long.
When
Alexander Albon and Norris have settled in for their post-race chat, the presenter asks her co-host Piastri, if he has ever raced with Albon and Norris.
''(I haven't) raced either of them," is the Australian's answer. However, according to the
McLaren driver, the young talent does not have to wait long.
Alonso's race
"Not yet. After a day like today, Fernando will be......'', said Norris, who did not finish his sentence and waved his hand while laughing. ''Did he have a bad race'', Albon asks the Brit, who then (just after the race) already knows that Fernando had to stop twice because his medium tyre were wearing off so fast.
Norris's information is definitely correct in this area. Alonso had a strong race and drove on the medium tire in the final stages. However, the Spaniard burnt up that tyre so fast that he had to go back in and scoring points became impossible. Norris was surprised by this, because he believes that Alpine had a much better car this weekend.
