Renault Wants to 'Freeze' Engine Development Until 2021

Renault has proposed to freeze the development of new engines until the new regulations from 2021 on will kick in, so the teams don't have to work on two separate projects at once.
"We're not keen to be working on two different engines at the same time," Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul said.
Abiteboul argues that it not only burdens the current manufacturers more than normal, but it gives new manufacturers an unfair advantage, as they can have their full attention on the 2021 engine.
The Frenchman admits that he doesn't know how such a plan would precisely look, but he is adamant that F1 owners Liberty Media soon have to propose this idea to the teams for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko weighed in on the argument.
"If we have such a 'freeze', there has to be a rule too that all engines have to have a performance that's within three percent of each other."
Is this a good idea? Or should the current engine manufacturers just suck it up? Let us know in the comments below!
