Daniel Ricciardo and Helmut Marko have agreed to talks regarding the Australian's future in the team.
Ricciardo joined Red Bull in 2014 after fellow countrymen Mark Webber's retirement from the sport, and with his contract up at the end of the season, he and Marko have agreed to discuss contract negotiations.
Ricciardo has won 5 races in Formula One, and at 28 years old, he is entering a crucial period in his career if he wants to become World Champion.
However there doesn't seem to be a better place than Red Bull for Ricciardo at the moment, with number one drivers Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel tied down at Mercedes and Ferrari respectively.
It is unlikely that either Hamilton or Vettel would want a driver of such talent as Ricciardo joining them next season.
Team-mate Max Verstappen has already signed with the team until 2020.
Helmut Marko told Sky Sports: "We agreed with him a deadline so soon as this deadline is over we will be able to tell you if it's yes or no."
Ricciardo added: "I think realistically around April things will start to be spoken.
"After a few races, hopefully I win the first few and can have a powerful say in what I do!"
