Daniel Ricciardo suffered a power unit issue in FP3 in Shanghai and only just got out in time for qualifying.
In a pivotal year for the Aussie, Daniel Ricciardo has stated that his faith in the progress of Renault with their power unit is fading.
He suffered another issue with his power unit less than a week after being forced to retire from the Bahrain Grand Prix with similar issues.
“I’ll never give up hope but for sure the window of optimism reduces over time,” said the Australian.
It will be worrying for Red Bull to hear as Ricciardo will be out of contract at the end of the current season with rumours circulating he could join former teammate Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari.
When asked if the poor performance could lead to him choosing to leave his current employers, Ricciardo maintained his position that he would be waiting until the season developed a little further.
“We’ll assess it after a few more races, we’ll see how we’re travelling."
Ricciardo was able to get out in qualifying and will start the race from sixth position.
