As the Mercedes contract talks heat up between the three drivers in question, George Russell has yet another strong qualifying session for Williams. The young British driver managed to secure the 11th fastest time on the grid but will move up to 10th following a penalty for Yuki Tsunoda.

During qualifying, Russell was painfully close to being able to compete in Q3 for the first time as a Williams driver. The man from Kings Lynn found himself just 0.008 seconds away from Lance Stroll. Speaking to Sky Sports, Russell lets off his frustration.
"I am sure there was one-thousandth somewhere, but it's the same for everybody. Pushing to my absolute limits. The car came alive again when it mattered. It's often frustrating when it's so close," Russell said.
Despite this frustration, the Williams driver is looking at the result positively. "P11 with free tyre choice I am happy with the progress we are making. Our race pace was looking relatively strong on Friday. I am not looking in my mirrors I am looking forward," he added.
