Carlos Sainz has expressed his disliking of DRS in Formula One, saying the behaviour of the car can be very dangerous if the flap doesn't close properly, which was the case with Marcus Ericsson's crash on Friday.
The Swede spun out on a straight as he had his DRS open, causing him to flip several times in his Sauber before coming to a stand-still.
“I’m glad Marcus is fine,” Sainz told RaceFans when looking back on the incident.
“DRS is an artificial and dangerous element.
"If the wing doesn’t close, the behaviour of the car changes dramatically.
“I hope that Formula One develops cars so that we don’t need DRS for overtaking.
“I understand that we cannot do without it now, but I hope in the future it’s different.”
Sauber explained that the accident occurred because of a new rear wing the team has installed. The DRS-flap wouldn't close on time often, almost causing Charles Leclerc to crash as well. However, the Monegasque held his car in one piece, unlike Ericsson.
