Carlos Sainz Jr of Renault has said that he was just holding on at the end of the
Bahrain Grand Prix, as his tyres were very worn at that stage and he eventually finished in P11.
The Spaniard had a poor start as he experienced a big amount of wheelspin which cost him. Later in the race, he seemed to have his tactics wrong too, as he was having to do a lot of fuel saving while driving on very worn soft tyres.
"I was surviving in the end there with very tired Soft tyres and having to do a lot of fuel saving," the Spaniard said after the fact.
"We have to analyze the start too, because I had a lot of wheelspin, too much, and from there on the race was compromised.
"After both stops I made I got stuck in a lot of traffic and I wasn't able to do much.
"It was a tough day for me to be honest, but we go to China now, so let's hope we can fight back there and get back into the points."
Sainz finished five places behind his teammate Nico Hulkenberg, who put in a good shift in his RS-18 and finished sixth.
