Sergio Perez started the Italian Grand Prix in P8 and also finished eighth at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, after also having some tough battles with George Russell. A result the Mexican did not expect. Especially not since his teammate Max Verstappen, finished only a few places ahead of him, in sixth.

A bigger gap between Verstappen and Perez

The result is not one the Mexican was hoping for. Throughout the race, Perez struggled with his car. "We were not expecting it to be that bad. But already on laps to grid, I could find that I just couldn’t stop the car the way I wanted. I couldn’t play with it," Perez said.

Perez was not the only one who struggled with a Red Bull car today. Max Verstappen too did not get his car beyond sixth place. "I wish the gap was a lot bigger and that Max was winning," Perez said. "Because at the end that will only help the team in the constructors especially."

The Mexican however, at least knows where his team need to improve. "I think it’s mainly balance. We need to be able to stop the car and be able to carry the speed. The problem is that we are not able to throw the car in because the rear is nowhere. So it’s something we have to work on. We’ve got a lot of work to do to fix this issue and hopefully in the next few races it can be better for us," he concluded in Monza.
