Formula One teams are gearing up for the Australian Grand Prix this weekend. The race weekend did not take place in 2020 and 2021, so Chris Medland has to get used to the destination again.

The GP was also scheduled for 2020 and was to be the first race of the season. However, at that time the coronavirus flared up and the FIA had to unexpectedly decide to cancel the event. Due to the measures in place in Australia, the GP could not take place a year later either.

"Landing in Melbourne feels a little bit like returning to the scene of a crime," the journalist at RACER.com summarizes. "Just over two years ago, the world was changing rapidly and Formula 1 – alongside the race organizers – was trying to pretend it wasn’t."

Tension mounts at GP Australia

The third race of the season once again promises to be thrilling. The new regulations have made it easier for the drivers to follow each other this season, resulting in a lot of overtaking during the first two GPs. It is expected that Ferrari and Red Bull Racing will fight for pole position again. Charles Leclerc currently holds the lead in the world championship, followed by Carlos Sainz. Max Verstappen is in third place.
