FIA president Jean Todt claims that Fernando Alonso has made a “brave” decision to race in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) alongside his regular Formula 1. Alonso took part in the Indy 500 last season.
The Spaniard is clearly hungry for achieving motorsport’s triple crown. This year he attempts to win Le Mans whilst racing for Toyota in the WEC. Fernando is going to be a busy man.
Todt was in praise for the brave actions suggesting it will be a beneficial factor.
“It’s a very personal decision and we have to respect it, but I think it’s good for racing,” said Todt.
“He also just launched an important motorsport training program a few weeks ago in China.
“He is a real driver, he loves motor racing and he also wants to give back part of what motorsport has given him.”
This move made by Alonso was more common in the 80’s and 90’s with Ferrari having their drivers compete wherever they wanted them to.
Graham Hill is the only driver to achieve the triple crown.
