Todt: F1 to be electric in the future "nonsense"

Sitting FIA president Jean Todt has called suggestions of the Formula One going fully electric in the future "nonsense", as the Frenchman cannot fathom the F1 going that direction, like the Formula E does.
Another thing to consider is that the Formula E has a deal with the FIA until 2039 stating that they have to be the leading electric single-seater championship. This really complicates things, should the F1 ever want to go fully electric.
Todt doesn't think the sport will though, as he thinks it would make the F1 a different category is it does go electric.
"It is true that we have an exclusive agreement on single-seaters for a certain amount of years with the promoter in FE, but it would be a nonsense to say that in the future Formula 1 is going to be electric," Todt told Autosport.
"It's not going to happen.
"Simply you could not do it.
"We are talking about two completely different categories."
It's fair to say the former Ferrari team principal doesn't see a future in electric cars, then. It should be considered, however, given the rising popularity of Formula E. And that rising popularity is not just among fans, but also among car manufacturers. More and more car brands are hopping on the trend.
