According to Alfa Romeo-Sauber's team leader, Frederic Vasseur, Sergio Marchionne had a major influence on the establishment of the recent cooperation between the two organisations.
Sergio Marchionne, the Ferrari man stepped down from his role last weekend and passed away earlier this week. Tributes have been made in Hungary, including a black band across the front of the Ferrari car.
Vasseur spoke about Marchionne to Racefans.
"When I came to him to talk about a motorcycle deal ahead of this season, he said 'yes' within ten minutes. Sergio was a great supporter of the project and also contributed to the cooperation with Alfa Romeo."
Toto Wolff also added some words earlier today. He mentioned how F1 has lost a powerful personality following Marchionne's passing.
"He was a great personality. Sergio was a powerful voice at all FIA and Formula One meetings. Although I think Ferrari can recover quickly, it doesn't change the fact that he's an irreplaceable factor," Wolff said.
