Max Verstappen broke record after record in the 2023 Formula 1 season. In 2023 alone, he set numerous records, but even before that, it was already an impressive list for the Red Bull Racing driver. We list Verstappen's records - old and new.
It was an F1 season packed with records for Verstappen. For example, he broke his own record for the most victories in a season (15 in 2022) by winning a Grand Prix 19 times in 2023. In Monza, he won for the tenth time in a row, breaking Sebastian Vettel's record. Moreover, he broke Alberto Ascari's record from 1952 by achieving the highest winning percentage (86.36%).
However, that is just a selection of the Dutchman's records in his dominant season. He also achieved the most sprint victories in a season (4), the most points (575) and the highest percentage of points (92.7%). He also achieved six hat-tricks, taking pole position, fastest lap and victory.
With victories in Miami, Austin and the new race in Las Vegas, Verstappen became the first driver in F1 history to win three times in the same country in one season. He also made no fewer than six pit stops during the unpredictable race in Zandvoort, where he nevertheless came out on top. That's another record, but one he has to share with Jenson Button when he won the four-hour Canadian GP in 2011 after it was halted several times due to heavy rain and incidents caused by it.
Verstappen ended his strong season in Abu Dhabi by leading more than a thousand laps as the icing on the cake. With 1003 (out of 1325) laps led, he led 75.7% of the time in 2023.
