After securing his first podium of the season, Max Verstappen has said that Red Bull were much faster on the day than Ferrari were, as Sebastian Vettel struggled to charge down Verstappen while having both fresher tyres and a front wing that was intact.

Speaking to Dutch tv-station Ziggo Sport, Verstappen explained what went so well for him during the race, and how he ended up on the podium.

"When you start in fifth, this is a very good result," he said during the press conference.

"Of course, we profited off of Kimi's problem, but we were clearly faster than them [Ferrari] too.

"The soft tyre took us a long way, which is how we got ourselves into a good position."

The fact that Sebastian Vettel was chasing him down on fresher tyres, didn't bother the Dutch youngster.

"Vettel couldn't attack anyway, it was just a case of getting third.

With a broken wing, that is. Didn't that bother him?

"I had some minor problems in the fast corners, but I adjusted the balance a bit and it wasn't so bad then.

"The car was good here, but it was lacking a bit on the straights."

Straight-line speed has been a known issue for Renault-engines for a while now. That won't be going away any time soon, trust us.
