Lewis Hamilton's current Mercedes contract ends at the conclusion of the 2024 Formula 1 season. That means that Hamilton will be a Mercedes driver in Formula 1 until the chequered flag falls at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, then the Brit will make the move to Ferrari for the 2025 F1 season. This is a multi-year deal so he will also be on the grid in 2026.
Lewis Hamilton has been driving for Mercedes since the start of the 2013 season. Before that, Hamilton burst onto the scene as a young 22-year-old at McLaren with bags of potential. Almost immediately, Hamilton proved his potential by reaching the podium. He finished second in his first World Championship campaign, losing out to Kimi Raikkonen by one point. Over the next 15 years, Hamilton has nearly always been in the fight for the title.
Hamilton won his first World Championship in 2008. This turned out to be his first and final World Championship for McLaren. The Brit stayed at the team until the conclusion of the 2012 season when he moved to Mercedes. The move seemed like a risk at the time, but it paid off. He went on to win another six World Championships.
The 39-year-old is approaching the twilight years of his career but is still performing at a very high level in Formula 1. He beat his younger teammate, George Russell, in the 2023 World Championship. Mercedes wanted to keep Lewis Hamilton but the British driver opted to activate a release clause in his contract. He signed a new contract with Ferrari and will join the team in 2025.
