Will there be a big change in F1? 'Citizens will not accept that'

The FIA worked hard in recent years to make Formula 1 more sustainable. Although the organization was quite successful in doing so, Carlos Tavares expects that there will come a time when the motorsport class will have to undergo a major change.

In fact, according to the PSA Group CEO, Formula 1 can learn quite a lot from Formula E. Tavares even thinks that in the future it will be impossible for both parties to operate separately and that they may even merge.

"What I believe also is that there will be a moment where Formula 1 will not be able to continue to race with internal combustion engines, simply because the citizens will not accept that," states Tavares in conversation with The Race. "The pressure from society will be so high that F1 will have to step out of the ICE technology."

Sustainability is important in Formula 1

Among the Formula 1 drivers, the possible changes in the future do not seem to meet with immediate resistance. Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, among others, have shown on several occasions in the past that they find it important that Formula 1 moves with the times. Focusing on sustainability would be an important factor in this.
