Mercedes has its full focus on the new season. However, Toto Wolff stresses that the team is far from forgetting the situation of last race year, he tells The Times.

Lewis Hamilton battled Max Verstappen for the world title all year in 2021. Both drivers were tied on points prior to the final Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, after which Verstappen captured the world title in the final round. However, the decisions made by the race control at the time caused much misunderstanding at Mercedes.

The German racing team first challenged the decisions, but eventually decided to give up the fight. According to the team boss, Mercedes had a clear reason for this. "We will never forget it, but we had to get over it," Wolff commented. "What happened in Abu Dhabi is the worst thing that could happen to you. In a way, though, it lessens the pressure on us. If we win, we’ll enjoy it even more."

Concerns at Mercedes because of speed Red Bull

This coming weekend, the first GP in Bahrain is scheduled. Mercedes is said to be very worried behind the scenes, as competitor Red Bull Racing has more speed for the time being. Ferrari also made a good impression in the preseason.
