Mercedes has mostly been the strongest team on the grid in recent years, but this season the proportions seem to be different. Due to the new regulations, the German racing stable is searching for the right balance, so Toto Wolff knows he is in for an uncertain weekend.

After the test days in Barcelona and Bahrain, it is time to start the first Grand Prix of the season. On the circuit in Bahrain, Mercedes not only has to compete against Red Bull Racing, also Ferrari seems to have good chances to perform strongly.

During the test days, it was clear at Mercedes that it does not yet have the speed of the competition. Mercedes' staff will therefore have to work hard this week to catch up. However, it remains to be seen whether Mercedes will be able to make up the difference.

Wolff looks forward to new season

Nevertheless, Wolff is looking forward to the new season, he said in a press release. "It's a clean slate for everyone," Wolff states. "What we love about F1 is that the stopwatch never lies - and we will get our first understanding of the competitive truth on Saturday in qualifying. I'm excited to see what the weekend has in store."
