Toto Wolff has responded to the situation that arose in the fan zone over the weekend of the
United States Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen and
Sergio Perez were booed heavily by US fans.
Speaking to Sky Germany, Wolff was asked for his opinion on the incident. "That is unacceptable. The booing, whether on stage or in the fan forum, nobody wants to see that." US fans started yelling "cheater" when Verstappen and Perez appeared on stage in the fan zone.
Red Bull Racing is getting a lot of criticism now that it has been revealed that the team has exceeded the budget cap in 2021. Competitors believe the team should be punished harshly for the breach. According to the latest reports, Red Bull and the
FIA have agreed on the punishment after several meetings in Austin. Out of respect for
Dietrich Mateschitz, the official announcement has been delayed.
Wolff: 'Booing doesn't belong here'
"I think we [F1] went against this kind of behaviour a lot at the beginning of the year. It has been somewhat contained and it doesn't belong here either. It shouldn't be there", Wolff continues. It is not the first time Verstappen has been booed by fans in the 2022 season.
Lewis Hamilton also had to suffer during the
Austrian Grand Prix. "
We fight hard on and off the track, but we don't have that kind of hostility towards each other", says the
Mercedes team boss.
