Formula 1 engine manufacturers must report for a meeting with the FIA in Bahrain, as reported by The Race, with V10 engines the topic of discussion.

According to the media, the meeting was supposed to take place on Friday during the Grand Prix weekend in Sakhir. It is the first weekend where Mohammed Ben Sulayem is present, who is a strong advocate for switching to V10 engines as soon as possible. In Bahrain, it should become clear where the manufacturers stand.

Will V10 engines return to F1?

Red Bull and Ferrari would like to switch quickly, but the other teams are not keen on this, with Audi already stating that they do not want to switch to V10 engines.

The German brand have invested heavily to make their entry into the sport in 2026, precisely because of the new engine regulations in that year. A completely new engine regulation is, therefore, contrary to what Audi would want.

Honda would also be against an early switch to a new engine, while Mercedes are open to discussions about the future, but the German brand considers it too early at the moment to start looking at a new engine, while the 2026 engine has yet to take its first miles.

GPblog previously reported that it would not involve V10 engines in 2026, but at the earliest in 2030. The engine regulations starting from 2026 are set until 2029. Only in 2030 could a transition be made to new engines, but then it is still questionable whether all manufacturers would be interested.
