A rumour has emerged at Autosprint that Red Bull's Max Verstappen has a clause in his contract which lets him leave the team, should the partnership with Honda that starts next season not work out well.

Verstappen extended his contract at Red Bull last season until 2020, long before the deal with Honda was announced, which is a bit suspicious. It could be that the clause wasn't specified for Honda though, it could've been for any engine partner in 2019.

The definition of "not working out well" obviously is a bit vague, but it probably doesn't mean that he would leave if they're not fighting for the championship next season, given their current situation which isn't much better.

Having a clause like this (if it's true) isn't a new thing. Drivers often have clauses so they feel more secure about their future, as they have it in their own hands more.
