Bottas thinks to take P2 from Verstappen in the pit lane

Max Verstappen pipped Valtteri Bottas' Mercedes in qualfying and will start from P2. Shortly afterwards, Valtteri Bottas parked in the wrong space.

Normally it is common for Mercedes' two black arrows to reserve the front row themselves in qualifying. That also seemed to happen in Sochi, until Max Verstappen beat Bottas in the final moments.

Whether the Finn had not heard the news from his engineer when, or whether he simply does not want to accept the news, it's not known. In any case, Bottas parks his Mercedes in his usual place, but that's not correct this time. Fortunately, a steward still manages to change the markers before Verstappen arrives.
