Albers critical of Leclerc: "You always see that he becomes too greedy"

Charles Leclerc lost another race to Max Verstappen in Miami. In the duels between the two in 2022, Leclerc seems to lose each time. Viaplay-analyst and former F1 driver Christijan Albers sees the Monegasque often being just a little too eager.

According to Albers, it is therefore Leclerc's own fault that he did not win the race. After the restart after the safety car the race was reset again and the Ferrari driver had every chance to attack the leader of the race. The moment he had the biggest chance to take the win, he let it slip out of his hands according to Albers.

Leclerc wants it too much

Speaking in the Viaplay studio after the race, the analyst said, "This moment after the safety car was a good opportunity for him to be able to pass Max. He was close and was faster at that moment. With the slipstream and the DRS he had the possibility. But you always see that with Leclerc; that he becomes so greedy that he starts overdriving himself. You saw that in Sector 2."

During qualifying Ferrari was still strongest in that sector, but Albers saw that during the race Red Bull started to gain more and more advantage in those corner combinations: "It came all the way to him [Verstappen]. You just saw that the car was getting faster and faster. Leclerc really needed the safety car to get into the fight a little bit more."

"Expert". I've heard many of those in me life. I just shake me head ruefully

Well, he did drove F1 and other classes, that is most likely the reason they brought him on their team, but most of us dutch don't think he is an expert at all and just ignore him. Most also rather see him being replaced :)

Charles did everything he could to make the pass. He drove incredibly well and error free in his pursuit of victory. Max did the same and deserved the win. Instead of criticism, we should be thankful of the incredible battle between the two and look forward to many more.

The pundits have their favourites and say things that are every bit as foolish as some of the people in the comments section It's a shame when the articles are as inane as the posts below them The battles between Charles and Max have been fantastic so far and will continue no matter what commentators and pundits say Additionally it's nice to see a good clean fight and not the BS of last year. Refreshing to say the least

I think Albers is a big tw@t. The guy is talking nonsense all the time. Just like to hear and see himself talking. My opinion worst Dutch analist these days. Even with DRS, Lec had no change to pass Max. He could keep up the speed with DRS enabled, but never been in serious position to attack properly.

And so it begins... again. It started like that last season, when British pundits were taking jabs at Max after every race, and then it quickly escalated. All that's missing is some obnoxious, Italian pundit claiming Max lacks mental strenght or is too greedy the next time Leclerc wins a race. It will be equaly ridiculous. We have a good, clean, respectful rivalry and it seems the media can't stand it - and have to stir the s*it.

Read my comment up, ignore Albers is what we do in Holland :)

“ We have a good, clean, respectful rivalry and it seems the media can't stand it - and have to stir the s*it.” Perfect diagnosis. Well done.

What is wrong with this guy? Daydreaming or, what? When you lack top speed to that extent, you obviously have to push it whenever you get the opportunity. Even if Leclerc would manage to pass Max at that safety car restart, Max would have caught him back eventually. Not gonna work.

Good grief, what is going on with Dutch pundits? Why there are so critical of Leclerc all of sudden? He deserved it at Imola, but here? What the hell did he do wrong? He was greedy in Imola becuase he was trying to fight with Red Bull and he was greedy in Miami because he wasn't? So basically no matter what he does, it's always wrong. In my opinion he didn't put his foot wrong in Miami. He did the best he could. Dutch pundits are going full British mode. Please don't go this way, it's unbecoming.

Jeroentje 09 May 2022 at 11:36+ 20219

Albers is not the brightest. I don't know anyone that likes him being one of the commentators. Ignoring him is the best you can do, which is also what we in Holland do :)
