Hamilton took different approach with Leclerc: 'Didn't want to run you off'

Lewis Hamilton may still believe he was not to blame for Max Verstappen's heavy crash at Silverstone 2021, but he did seem to be more aware in the similar duel with Charles Leclerc this year. This is evident from a comment heard in a YouTube video released by Ferrari.

The British Grand Prix saw a spectacular battle between Sergio Perez, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, with Leclerc attempting to overtake on the outside of the infamous Copse Corner. Unlike last year, this time the fight ended well. Not only did Leclerc fear that things might go wrong, Hamilton also approached the corner differently this time.

Did Hamilton learn from Silverstone 2021 after all?

The video shows a clip of Hamilton and Leclerc talking during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend. In it, they revisit the previous week's battle and the Briton makes a striking statement: “I was like, ‘f*** man, I don’t want to clip you and send you off,'”, he tells the Monegasque.

After the race at Silverstone, Hamilton praised the Ferrari driver and stated that, unlike last year, he was dealing with a "sensible driver". However, given his recent comments it seems he may have learnt something from the incident after all.

So this is Hamilton admitting he ran Max off the track last year...

For those who understand English that is what he stated.

In a round about way, yes.

Why is it that the one time someone actually stands up to Max the bully and gives him a taste of driving techniques he has made famous, is now the topic of this blog. Max has forced every driver he has ever raced against off the track, this is why is is known as mad max.

That's an admission about Silverstone 21, right there.

Hamilton took different approach for a change!......What a joke!

Anthony Bailey 14 July 2022 at 23:05+ 4524

The usual trolls post the same garbage. God, you dudes are PATHETIC.

CJ77 14 July 2022 at 23:10+ 10555

Im glad you are seeing the patheticness off defending Hamilton too now.

Anthony Bailey 15 July 2022 at 02:55+ 4524

Whatever, dude. You Max slurpers make me want to vomit. LOL

CJ77 15 July 2022 at 03:18+ 10555

I wasnt a Max fan either, but seeing how much anger and poison comes from Lewis fans, I let it all go and saw things in a different light.

Stef1an 14 July 2022 at 20:59+ 1427

He is never to blame, man. Just always the victim. And when nothing happens, resurrect the race card.

Makes a difference when you don't get squeezed against the wall on the run up to copse at 160 mph and you don't turn in on the car on the inside. As for all of you fangirls waiting for an apology I think Lewis will apologize right after max does the same for parking his car on top of him at Monza until then I don't think so

As if Verstappen can steer a launched car in such a way that it deliberately lands on top of a Mercedes, where a Mercedes consciously drives Verstappen off the track

CJ77 14 July 2022 at 22:48+ 10555

So you are saying Lewis was at fault?

User Avatar
Anoniem-2 14 July 2022 at 23:43+ 7717

Nah I'm saying he was predominantly to blame, hence the 10sec penalty. Are you saying max was at fault in Monza?

CJ77 14 July 2022 at 23:47+ 10555

Nope, even Brundle stated Max did nothing wrong. That again was all Hamilton trying to force the corner.

CJ77 15 July 2022 at 24:48+ 10555

youtu.be/C_J-sfngex4 should watch this from Palmer. very unbiased reporting of the incident. I dont hate Lewis. I disagree with his attitude.

Your hate for Lewis is so obv in all of your posts. I disagree Max knew either Lewis was going to back out AGAIN (which was never going to happen) or the 2 of them were crashing it's as simple as that. You can polish it whatever way you want it won't change my opinion.

CJ77 15 July 2022 at 24:14+ 10555

Actually, Max didnt know what was going to happen. Under those circumstances the driver on the inside would push the other car out sooner which both drivers have done perfectly prior. On this occasion Lewis actually left a gap for max and only closed it when Max had got alongside and no longer had anywhere to go other than the sausage kerb. Was simply a mess up and racing incident through Lewis making the mistake of not closing off the gap.

Am no bothered what brundle stated. Didn't max get a penalty for it? Max knew what he was doing and what was going to happen, just like he knew what he was doing in SA aswell.

Ferrarifanatic 14 July 2022 at 20:43+ 14286

Why bring this up at all Lewis? Self incrimination, perhaps!!!

Poor Lewis , VICTIM yet again .

We know. It's painfully obvious.

Wow, I was expecting Lewis to state his confession after his retirement! hmmm, i am impressed that he is admitting his mistake! that is the 1st step. mark my words. One day he will apologize to Max for Silverstone 21.

mpplc 14 July 2022 at 20:12+ 10240

If Abu Dhabi hadn't happened, or if he won the title regardless, he could. But now, I'm convinced that he never will.

If he would have done to Leclerc, what he did to Verstappen, then tifosis would have done spaghetti out of Hamilton in Monza.

User Avatar
Bret 14 July 2022 at 19:53+ 43891

If that happened, I would totally start a campaign to remove Lewis from F1. But I am happy with this statement. Admittance is the first sign of acceptance.

User Avatar
F1isBack 15 July 2022 at 02:08+ 31513

@Cain He also didn't expect what was to follow for him after that last year. Hasn't missed that apex just once in 103 laps since. Thats 104 -1 (the one he took out Max)

Lewis must have felt a bit guilty after Silverstone 2021.

User Avatar
CarnismKing 14 July 2022 at 20:20+ 4336

Narcissistic personalities don’t feel guilt , it’s always someone else’s fault and Lewis is the Victim ………. Yet again .

maverick75 14 July 2022 at 19:23+ 18743

Well, well. So Lewis knows what he did differently at Silverstone this year compared to 2021. As Max said, you keep learning, even at 37. Lucky Leclerc.

That was the day Sir Lewis lost many fans for more reasons than just that moment. Will be a great day for F1 when he finally departs.

Lewis is the most followed and most liked driver in F1 worldwide, so do please stop your boring and inaccurate posts. It's only on GPBlog that Lewis has "supposedly"lost a lot of fans - probably fans he never actually had because you are practically all Max followers right from the beginning. Logo, because you are nearly all Dutch and if there is a racing incident involving Max, it will always be the other guy to blame I'm fine with that, and fine with you being a Max fan, but just don't give me the BS that you ever supported Lewis or that he somehow lost you as a fan This conversation between Lewis and Charles has got nothing to do with Max or Silverstone. It's just the Dutch copy writer who is trying to get clicks by winding up Max's fans again. Lewis was saying nothing about Silverstone 2021. He certainly didn't mention it in the recording. He was just acknowledging to Charles that he was aware of the risks at this bend during their on-track duel
