Emerson Fittipaldi is praising Sergio Perez. The Mexican must hold the honour for Latin America in Formula 1 and did so with verve in Monaco by winning the Grand Prix.

Perez has started the 2022 Formula 1 season strongly. The Red Bull driver has already finished on the podium three times, including once on the top step in Monaco. He was the first Mexican to do so and according to Fittipaldi, it was only right.

Perez lord and master

''He deserved to be there. He was there because of his speed. He was faster than Max (Verstappen) in qualifying and he drove fast in the race. I want to congratulate Checo Perez, because this weekend he was the 'Master of Monaco'. He won the race under enormous pressure and didn't make a single mistake,'' said the 1972 and 1974 world champion to Vegasinsider.com.

As a Brazilian, Fittipaldi looks at Checo in a special way. ''It's a fantastic victory for Mexico and for Latin America. We only have one driver from Latin America in F1, where there used to be five or six. Now we all count on Perez and he did a great job,'' Fittipaldi concluded.

No, he wasn't. He had track position. In clear air Max was quicker. When Perez came in, Max immediately started closing the gap quickly to the Ferrari in front. In the final stint, the entire top 4 was nose to tail. If passing was possible, Perez would have slipped to 4th.

I mentioned in another post, in my opinion Pérez dominated Max. In qualifying and the race . King of Monaco ??, I can't disagree.

Reporters were saying that last lap that Verstappen had to abandon cause of Perez crash, he could have gone to 2nd position. And Monaco is not a circuit, where you can say somebody dominated somebody else. You just can't race there. Can we say that Russell dominated Hamilton, no. It's all about qualifying in Monaco. If somebody has to abandon their best lap or gets to traffic and cause of that gets worse start position, that doesn't mean he did less good of a job than his team-mate. So much about your domination then....

Well under that logic there was a few races Perez could've got pole/ or beat Max were it not for the same reasons. The situation was literally reversed to Monaco a few times.(Though I agree that you can't put too much emphasis on dominated,we can say Perez was faster every session in Monaco)

Max started fourth, finished third, logic says he overtook someone.
