'Shame if Verstappen is labelled an unfair driver later on'.

Martin Brundle has spoken in his column for Sky Sports of his admiration for the qualities of Max Verstappen, but finds it unfortunate that the Red Bull Racing driver is tempted to commit 'professional transgressions'.

Professional infraction

Brundle is a big fan of Verstappen's handling of his car, but is less enamoured with his actions in recent races. In Brazil and Saudi Arabia, the Dutchman showed that he will use every trick in the book to keep Lewis behind him - but according to Brundle, he doesn't need that.

''Such is Max's car control and cunning he's sometimes able to pull off the audacious moves and leave a margin of doubt as to whether it's hard racing or simply a professional foul outside of the regulations. And it's those moments, such as the infamous turn four in Brazil, which are generating the confusion, controversies and inconsistencies'', says the former F1 driver.

Verstappen a dishonest driver?

''I'm in awe of Verstappen's driving skills and racing nous, and have championed him since the Chinese Grand Prix of 2015 when he was in the Toro Rosso. His touch and control behind the wheel is something to behold, but it saddens me that he's resorting to such tactics, he's better than that.''

''And for all his carefree attitude it will be such a shame if his legacy is to be labelled as an unfair driver. Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher had their faults too, and I was on the receiving end from both of them on occasions, but it's a sizeable dent on their immense reputations, not a positive'', concludes Brundle.

Herbert has confirmed Max is not a good driver. According to him which we all know, that he has been driving well in the early part of the season. So what happened in second part? He just can't put perfect together as Michael Schumacher and Hamilton did to arrive at 7 apiece. I started watching F1 when Max and Roman were on the crashing spree. We all agree he can push the car but with no risk planning or winning planning. Max is too chaotic at the moment.

Darren Johnson 09 December 2021 at 03:57+ 32

Listen if he wasn't such a jealous driver, he wouldn't have tried to run Hamilton off of the track and he would not've had a problem giving Hamilton the place back.

Elias 08 December 2021 at 14:50+ 111

Am not sure whats is going on in f1 Hamilton keeps getting away with murder.Max was told to let go Hamilton should of past him Max braked to let him pass Hamilton ran in the back if it was the other way round I wonder what people be saying. Hamilton has by far the best car yet he's still crying . First opertunity Max has with a 50/50 should take Hamilton out

Brundle loves Lewis and he can do no wrong in his eyes. When Lewis runs somebody wide it's all good, when someone's runs Lewis off the road it's bad racing and something must be done immediately Lewis can literally run into the back of his team mate and its still the othe guys fault. Hes a typical biased UK commentator, the only one that's worst Damien Hill, he's a shrill

Verstappen may be a talented driver..... but he is also a dirty driver and acts like a little kid!!! The podium celebrations clearly show that!!

Ashysdad 08 December 2021 at 11:25+ 565

I See a me have write that max has an inferior car, yet he was on course to beat Hamilton lap time by at least 3/10 of a second. He had had more poles than Hamilton. Which part is inferior? He has had a better car than mercedes ball season. That's why Horner is disappointed he has not won championship. And we all know no point been ignorant about it that the Belgium driver has been reckless many times since he became an F1 driver. All you have to do is check the stats on how many time penalties he has had and podiums lost because of this. Yes Lewis has also been an aggressive at times, but not to the extent max has. As far r mercedes domination. Well that's not always been like that has it? Been a few tight finishes over the years Hamilton has been crowned champion. To be the best you need the best equipment.. Real Madrid Brazil did not become champions by not having the best. And the pikes of Ronaldo and Messi also helped the teams win. They did not do this on their own. 2000 people at mercedes make the team work like clockwork. In the end if a driver has no care for others he will end up harming or killing himself and others. Lucky for Hamilton he had the new halo on his car, we may have been witness to a death if not for that. Regardless of what Ch team or driver you support or follow with passion. Stand back and watch them race without the support and see how reckless they are at times. And then do some research and you will find out even more on their penalties etc. They are after all like us human and can be jealous or nasty. It's normal ro one to be like that when another baloon s better than them.

Verstappen in his dangerous quest to win will be the cause of a serious injury to himself but even worse to someone else. The fia is complicate in this fiasco. Let’s hope the last race is without an event but I doubt it.

Roberto Palxonit 08 December 2021 at 02:16+ 9

he will win the final race....

Robert Hunter Falkner 07 December 2021 at 21:38+ 4

I think that Max is driving yhe wheels off an inferior car. If he "behaved" then the drivers championship would have been over long ago. Mercedes have a better car by a long way and Lewis, love him or hate him is an exceptional driver. For Max to even be in with a shout has meant that he has had to push the limits far more than Lewis had to. Reverse the positions... would Lewis be any different. Respect to Max for what he has achieved with less.

Ruud Schmitz 07 December 2021 at 20:18+ 208

Shame if anyone will get called an unfair driver for causing something that small. It's not that someone was tan into a walk with 50 G...

Nzimanyana Mpofu 07 December 2021 at 19:49+ 26

It's all unravelling for Crashwillhappen (epic epithet by the way!). All sycophants on here are headed for a sorry wkend in Abu Dhabi! Max is an awesome talent - no doubt. His crazy antics, however, may get another driver killed one day! Unfortunately he won't win a title while the GOAT is still around.. Sorry.

Bradley Trichardt 07 December 2021 at 18:10+ 133

Vettel also has same set ,at Canada he clearly lot control and pushed ,Lewis off the track to ,stay in front .How ever Vettel is a better wheel to wheel than Max .Max is still Young if his disciplined and composed ,you think Lewis just hit him from behind without ,knowing he was going to get Penalties .Lewis way more composed and experienced .The only way Max will win the Championship is DNF Lewis or Redbull get wings .Serious note if they play dirty .?

Mr_B 07 December 2021 at 18:04+ 33

It's not that I absolutely love Red Bull and Max Verstappen, but more a case of supporting any team that is able to compete and possibly beat Merc. That being said, I certainly lost some respect for Max on Sunday. It is clear that nothing is more important than winning for him, even if it puts other drivers at serious risk. Tell me whatever you want, that "attempt" to allow Hamster past was dangerous, unsportsmanlike, and clearly an ill-conceived brake test.

Samco 07 December 2021 at 17:11+ 14

Jos Verstappen has been arrested for assault and beating his wife then again for beating his girlfriend also for nearly murdering a driver so....I see where Max's aggression comes from.

Pookra Uwani 07 December 2021 at 14:42+ 8

Vesterppen is turning into a cheater. A dirty one for that.

ONTHECAM 07 December 2021 at 12:39+ 396

Funny, the only real carnage in Jeddah happened mid-field. Leclerc touched Perez while Leclerc was with half his car off the track and Perez was dutifully on- track. End result? Perez, Russel, and Mazapin out. Yet, almost everyone on this blog making accusations against Max. Armchair experts

Maaskantje 07 December 2021 at 12:01+ 1996

Max is a dirty driver. He should be banned !

LGP 07 December 2021 at 11:33+ 601

Even if MV/RB wins his first WC after 7 years of trying, it will be because of dirty ugly driving. What an absolute shame. The boy has the finesse of a NASCAR driver on meth.

J945646 07 December 2021 at 11:57+ 378

Maaskantje 07 December 2021 at 12:03+ 1996

Charles345th 07 December 2021 at 14:30+ 4784

Where did you see dirty driving? I'm not even talking about Silverstone now. You guys have no grasp of dirty driving! Not making a turn is not dirty driving...LH had that so many times. Like Silverstone LH did not make te apex. Or make up your mind..is it dirty driving...or not?

Isaac Dzinza 07 December 2021 at 11:16+ 568

Nothing unfair here, it is the honest truth. Saudi Arabia just cemented this fact. He is a reckless and dangerous kid in a high speed car.

Realismf1 07 December 2021 at 11:42+ 3127

You would think he ran into the back of someone, oh no, it was hamilton who did.

Joolz M Phonik 07 December 2021 at 11:14+ 17

It's car racing, not croquet or test cricket.. grow some balls

Haita Valentin 07 December 2021 at 11:07+ 5245

I think that Max is pushed from by RBR bosses and his father and sometimes is very aggresive beyond the limit of the rules..

Well Martin...he kinda does, since the Merc is 0.5s per lap faster now, Max has to grasp at any straw he can, its that simple!

"Max has to grasp at any straw he can, its that simple!" We need to inject a bit of common sense (what the sh*t has common sense got to do with anything on GPBLOG ,- haha) into the discussion here, Joost. Surely Max would be best advised to drive fairly and within the rules so the FIA doesn't feel the need to step in, and the championship can be decided on the track

Watch this https://youtu.be/F1XfFdwutSU It is easy to accept that both drivers are committing faults and are driving over the limit. Why wouldn't they though? They are fighting for championship.

42.11 When the clerk of the course decides it is safe to call in the safety car a message “STANDING START” will be sent to all teams Competitors via the official messaging system, all FIA light panels will display “SS” and the car's orange lights will be extinguished. This will be the signal to the teams Competitors and drivers that it will be entering the pit lane at the end of that lap. At this point the first car in line behind the safety car may dictate the pace and, if necessary, fall more than ten car lengths behind it. So by Masi's own admission, they were still under SC conditions, it wasn't a formation lap, therefore both of the following SC rules apply: 39.5 No car may be driven unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner which could be deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers or any other person at any time whilst the safety car is deployed. This will apply whether any such car is being driven on the track, the pit entry or the pit lane. 39.7 All competing cars must reduce speed and form up in line behind the safety car no more than ten car lengths apart So Masi can't keep track of his own regulations

Simpleh Lovely 07 December 2021 at 09:55+ 15729

The British are slandering Max now every chance they got much like they did with Schumacher, Alonso, Vettel, Rosberg to a degree. It broke Vettel but won't affect Max.

Quote from 2016 Even FIA race director Charlie Whiting suggested Verstappen risked getting "a bad name" unless he tempered his ways, having met with the 18-year-old at Monza following his controversial scrap with Kimi Raikkonen in the Belgian Grand Prix.

Even Max fans are rational beings (sic), so let's take this step by step. These are past comments of Max fans 1. You don't want the championship to be decided by the FIA 2. The FIA is the sworn enemy of Max 3. Masi couldn't manage a piss-up in a brewery. So if Max uses ANY means to win, as you are always cheering him on to do, you are NOW happy for the FIA to step in and take the championship away from him in Abu Dhabi ???? Surely Max would be best advised to drive fairly and within the rules so the championship can be decided on the track

Lucas Oosterveld 07 December 2021 at 19:22+ 72

F1KoolFan, can we just agree to not generalise max fans? Not every max fan is an ignorant twat that thinks max can't do anything wrong.

Actually Brundle is a Max fan. He sometimes tries to give LH a fair hearing but many times, his assessment is unfair (e.g. withdrawing ealier comments about Max's conduct in Brazil and suggesting it was ok). In fact he is jealous of LH and any praise is through gritted teeth - similar to but not quite as bad as Jackie Stewart. He finally had to change his tune in Jeddah after the flak he got post Brazil.
